Illuminated counter & shopfront project

Project spotlight · From our team’s archive

Completed servery counter with illuminated decorative panels
A finished servery counter with a colourful illuminated front.

A band of colour turns this counter front into a feature of the interior. The archive also shows the illuminated shopfront and the counter within the wider retail setting, connecting the detail with the place around it.

Light as part of the counter

The illuminated panel runs across the front of the serving point. Its colour stands out against the surrounding surfaces, while the lettering gives the panel a branded focus. The wide format allows the effect to read across the counter rather than being confined to a small sign.

For a similar brief, the panel size, face material, depth and access for lighting need to be considered alongside the counter construction. Include the effect you want, the power position and access to the lighting when preparing a similar project.

Carry the identity to the entrance

The shopfront view shows a different use of illumination: lettering identifies the premises above the entrance. Its scale and position relate to the frontage and the view from outside. Thinking about both the serving point and the exterior sign helps establish where a brand needs to be seen.

Plan the counter and the entrance as one brief

Work through the service counter

Use the completed counter as a visual reference, then map your ordering, payment and collection positions around the actual equipment and staff tasks.

Plan a café or servery counter

Develop the illuminated feature

Identify what should appear bright, where it will be seen and how it fits the surrounding space. Include power, controls and access in the brief for the sign or counter front.

Explore lighting effects and details

If the brief combines exterior lettering, an interior counter and printed graphics, include all three in the first enquiry. Our signage and graphics guide helps organise artwork and fitting information.
